Malignant mesothelioma, epithelial type. Malignant mesothelioma tumor cells form tubules that infiltrate loose fibrous tissue of the pleura.


Malignant mesothelioma, epithelial type. The strong brown staining of the mesothelioma tumor by the protein, calretinin, is characteristic of epithelial type mesothelioma and aids in its distinction from adenocarcinoma.


Malignant mesothelioma, sarcomatoid type. The tumor cell nuclei are oval to spindle-shaped and pale blue, the cytoplasm light pink, and the cell borders indistinct.


Malignant mesothelioma, sarcomatoid type. The strong brown staining for keratin proteins helps distinguish this tumor from other spindle cell malignancies.
