Chemotherapy Clinical Trials
A Phase II Study of Bevacizumab (Avastin™) and Erlotinib (Tarceva™) in Previously Treated Malignant Mesothelioma (Protocol 03-369) is now open to patients who have previously failed prior chemotherapy treatment. Both Bevacizumab and Erlotinib are investigational agents that have not received approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Bevacizumab is an antibody against the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and erlotinib is an inhibitor of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). Both drugs have been administered to subjects with mesothelioma, and studies to date suggest that both agents can be administered safely together. Preclinical studies suggest that both agents may be effective in killing mesothelioma cells and that together these drugs may be better than by themselves. Pasi Jänne, MD, PhD of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is the Principal Investigator. Contact (617) 632-6049 or
